Sofi Abrahamyan (MAIRD ’25): Empowering the Women of Artsakh
M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy ’25
Manoogian Simone Foundation Scholarship Recipient
Sofi Abrahamyan (MAIRD ’25) hails from Stepanakert, Artsakh and is majoring in the Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy (MAIRD) program at AUA. Personally impacted by the aftermath of the 2020 44-Day War, Abrahamyan decided to enroll in the newly launched MAIRD program and build diplomatic bridges between Armenia and the world.
Representing Artsakh and spreading awareness of the ongoing conflict gave Abrahamyan a sense of purpose. An active and curious student, she has participated in more than 15 Erasmus+ programs around the world, allowing her to not only talk about her country, but also work on her personal development. “When the 2020 Artsakh War started, I received messages from my international friends who knew nothing about Artsakh prior to meeting me. It was good to know that I made even the smallest contribution in representing my homeland,” recalled Abrahamyan.
In addition to her studies at AUA, Abrahamyan also works as a project coordinator at FemInno, the biggest female innovation platform in Armenia and the region, organizing annual conferences involving female talent in science, business, and technology. “I work on several projects supporting women from Artsakh. One of our social initiatives involves the sale and distribution of handmade items created by these women. This has impacted 30 refugees, who now have reliable income,” noted Abrahamyan. “We also provide workshops and training in technology to help them gain skills and find new opportunities. Supporting my community encourages me to do better every day.”
AUA played an important role in Abrahamyan’s professional development, as it provided a theoretical foundation, principles in project-based learning, and access to a supportive community. Upon graduation, she plans to continue following her passion for non-profit work and contributing to the development of Armenia. “I am very grateful to the Manoogian Simone Foundation for supporting me and being part of my journey. Their investment offered great encouragement at a challenging time for myself and many others from Artsakh,” said Abrahamyan.
